This is why I use the little + icon next to the input range text box on the dialog box. If you click on this icon, you will be able to insert the range in the usual way. As far as the output range is concerned, you only need to specify this (by select the cell where the output will begin) before you select a data analysis tool; this approach is used in both the Windows and Mac versions of the Real Statistics software. Thank you again for developing this resource. I would like to use it in a class that I may teach in marketing analytics next fall. I have a Mac with 2011 Excel loaded on it.
I have downloaded the 2011.xlam program and moved it to my application folder. When I select the Tool option for add-ins, I see solver, but not the XLAM file. I can load the XLAM folder into the add-in options with the select button, but I get the “Can’t Find Project or Library ” error message. If I push “OK,” then it asks for a password.
If if I just push cancel, then the file seems to be in the Tools Addin options with a check beside it and there is a “Real Statistics” column at the end of the menu header line. I can try Ctrl-M as well and get the menu. When I try to use the menu, however, I get “compilation errors in hidden modules”. In order to exit out of these, I usually just force quit the program. Any ideas about what I may be doing wrong. I can see that others have had similar problems, but I can’t seem to resolve this on my own.
David, Sorry for the delayed response. If you don’t see RealStats-2011 on the list of addins when you select AddIns from the Tools menu, you need to click on the Browse button to locate the Real Statistics file. It must be checked in the list of addins or it won’t work. You never need to use a password. If you are prompted for one then something has gone wrong. If you move the file containing the Real Statistics software, then Excel may get confused.
In this case you may need to start the installation process over again. Dear Charles I have previously used Real Statisitics without problem, however I have recently had to replace by software including Excel.
I now use Excel 2016 version and downloaded RealStats-Mac-2016.xlam. When I enter =VER into a cell I receive ‘5.9 Excel Mac 2016/2019’. When I type cmd + m the window minimises, as designated by Excel short cuts. No menu for Real Statistics appears in the ribbon along with Solver and Data Analysis. So, at present, I cannot access the programme to used it. Any advice will be greatly received.
Hi Charles, I have the same problem. I get the pop-up that states “Can’t find project or library”. When I click OK again, I get prompted for a RealStats password. I installed Real Statistics on Mac (Microsoft 2011), =VER yields 5.6 Excel 2011. If I press ‘cancel’, then when I attempt to use Real Statistics analysis tools I see ‘compile error in hidden module: Analysis’ When I choose the Add-Ins option from the Tools menu, I see RealStats-Mac in the list of addins with a check mark next to it. I also see Solver on the list of addins with a check mark next to it. What would you suggest me to do?
Peter, From the first sentence of your comment, I understand that the installation didn’t work, but from the second sentence I understand that it did work although no icon appears. In order to better understand the situation, please answer the following questions: What do you see when you enter the formula =VER in any cell? Do you see the main menu when you press Ctrl-m or Command-m? When you select AddIns from the Tools menu do you see RealStats-Mac and Solver in the list of addins with a check mark next to each of them? Hi Charles, I have just installed Real Stats 5.6 for Excel 2011 (checked via the =ver equation) on my Mac, which also is an Office 2011.
I do see real stats and solver checkmarked when I go to Tools Addins. After checkmarking realstats, I receive “can’t find project or library” which prompts me to the password screen. If I click “ok” I can still use the realstats dialog box as normal, however doing any tests (I’m trying to run a Mann-Whitney non-parametric test right now) leads me to the “compile error in hidden module: analysis” issue when I click ok. I’m just wondering what I am doing wrong, and if you had any ideas on how to solve this.
Cheers, Nora. First off, fantastic software!!! Very helpful! I am having the same issue that several users are reporting: “Compile error in hidden module: xxx” mine being for “AnovaAnalysis” but it can be for others too, depending on what I’m trying to run. The only work-around I found was to disable the Add-In, Close Excel (I did NOT Quit Excel, just closed my Workbooks), Re-open Workbook and enable the Add-In and then it works just fine. But if I close the workbook or quit Excel it will not work. So each time I have to disable the Add-In, then re-open the sheet, re-enable the Add-In, then it works.
It’s tedious, but it works. On my other Mac it works no problem.
It’s so tedious that I tried installing the 2011 version which works flawlessly (I don’t both Add-Ins at the same time.) I’m running Excel 15.17 (2016 for Mac) and RealStats-Mac-2016. I hope this helps people that are having similar issues. Dear Charles I installed the following version:5.4.2 Mac Excel 2011 according to your instructions.
I have excel 2011 for mac. Yesterday, I could get the version working just fine with the anova test on my data. However, this morning when I tried to open the workbook I kept getting all types of compatibility errors (Compile error in hidden module: ANOVA) and now I cannot work with the tool. I noticed others have had similar issues with the tool using mac 2011. Is there a way to fix this and get the tool running again? Good Afternoon, I am quite excited to run a logistic but am unable to access the software.
I am using a 2016 Mac version and after spending countless hours downloading and installing, I have given up. I had the Solver running/checked, downloaded the compatible version, and just do not see it as an “Add In” anywhere. I expected a tab to pop-up and tried to find it under the standard data analysis pack. Please help if you can. Best, Derek fyi, “Can’t find projects or libraries ” is the error message. Derek, When you select AddIns from the Tools menu do you see Solver and RealStats Mac 2016 on the list of addins? If so, then make sure there is a check mark next to both of these and press OK.
If RealStats Mac 2016 is not on the list of addins, then click on the Browse button to locate the file containing RealStats Mac 2016. After completing this process make sure that Solver and RealStats Mac 2016 are on the list of addins with check marks next to them. You can now use the software by pressing Ctrl-m. You will know that things are working properly when a dialog box appears after pressing Ctrl-m. If this doesn’t work, please tell at which step in the process you get an error message.
Dear Charles, I have downloaded and followed the steps exactly as listed but excel will not let me use your real statistics resource pack. I have tried to uninstall it too, by unchecking the box closing excel and deleting the files, but then when I open excel and go to toolsadd-ins the real stat packs are still listed there, just unchecked. I am not sure if that is a problem or not. Anyways, I then try to reinstall them and follow the instructions word for word. I have the realstats pack selected, the data analysis selected and the excel solver selected as add ins under the tool tab, but only the latter two show up in the upper corner of excel to be used. Sorry, I scrolled through all these comments and I realize this is a sort of repeat question, but I am hoping to get some specific advice. Let me know if I can provide you with any more information.
Also, thanks for making this, I’m sure once I get it going it is going to be fantastic. You say that Excel won’t let you use the Real Statistics Resource Pack. How is this communicated to you? If it is an error message, what does the message say? When you install Real Statistics, are you able to press the key sequence Ctrl-m? If so what do you see? What do you see when you enter the formula =VER?
What version of Real Statistics are you using? The one for Excel 2011 or Excel 2016? When you unintall Real Statistics, you say that the real stat packs are still listed among the addins.
You use the plural word packs; are you trying to install more than one version? If so, what happens when you install only one of the versions?
When you uninstall any Excel addin by removing the check mark, it doesn’t go away from the list of addins (since you may want to reactivate it later by replacing the check mark). If you then delete the file containing the addin, when you try to check the corresponding addin you will receive an error message prompting you as to whether you want to delete the addin from the list. If you say yes, then the addin will be removed from the list of addins. Hi Charles, I apologize for writing again but I could not find my previous post.
I have Excel 2011 on a Mac. I have repeated the installation instructions several times but to no avail. When I am in the Add-Ins dialog box, I check the Real-Stats box, and then after I click “OK”, I get the pop-up that states “Can’t find project or library”. When I click OK again, I get prompted for a RealStats password. Other than downloading the Add-In and moving it to the desired location, is there anything else I need to do before including it in the installed Add-Ins in Excel? Thanks again. Pavel, I found that when I used Real Statistics on my Mac today I also got an error message when I tried to use the Descriptive Statistics data analysis tool.
This worked fine the last time I tried it a few weeks ago. In any case, the following approach resolved the problem for me. I suggest that you try it. I opened a new Excel workbook and selected Add-Ins from the Tools menu and unchecked RealStats 2. Next I closed Excel and then reopened Excel (on a new workbook) 3. I selected Add-Ins from the Tools menu and then checked RealStats.
When I tried to use the Descriptive Statistics data analysis tool this time, it worked fine.
